I went to this church awhile back and it's not to say I wouldn't return again, but my first experience was odd to me. There are certainly some really nice people here and you can hold your hand up high to the Holy Spirit, but it seems like the teaching pastor who spoke that day (community and culture) was both spiritually driven but driven to say some strange things as well. All of the sudden, when he talked about planting churches, he called out Woodinville as a place not to place a church. I wasn't sure if it was because other churches were planting there (ie. competition), or what but then there was lines about communities needing too much help, ie. something like Woodinville. I lived in Woodinville at the time and while I agree that a beautiful heart of Christ would be helpful, I didn't think it great to indicate that the town would be too much work to help. I almost thought he was channeling. I came with another guy friend and after the service we talked with one of the ushers, and the guy nearly completely ignored me and only talked to my friend, when I was the one who prompted the idea of going and invited this friend to go. It was lead by a young team and I was looking for more people my age, so I was taken back by the idea that I was overlooked. It continued on, and I actually cut into the conversation because it was so awkwardly rude. We started to talk about church background and such and it turned out that he had come from a large church that had shut down. I wondered if maybe the complexities of the churches today are lending toward bad teaching, because as a woman, I seriously wondered what was going on. Maybe this guy thought that it was only appropriate to talk to the guy, and not the woman, but I was completely turned off by it. It was as if I didn't have anything to contribute, and in 2016, that's not even part of the story anymore. Truth be said (which I found ironic), for all of the attention that was given to the guy, he wasn't interested in your church, I was. It wasn't his type, he was looking for the City Church, so I hope this is a note that it's always good to pay attention to everyone because you never know who could be the one that helps you (it's kind of like in a restaurant, if you cater to the guy thinking he is paying the bill and you suddenly find out it is the woman with the wallet; it just reminds us to pay attention to all). We then had another guy come up (executive pastor I think) who was much more normal and genuine and talked to us both. It smoothed over the extreme awkwardness. I just couldn't really say that encounter was about me, but more about whatever was going on with that person as I am a pretty warm person to talk to. There is a theme I do notice in churches today though, and I just realized it comes from the bible and it's patriarchy viewpoint. I understand that it is in there, but it's outdated as Christ was for all, and the bible clearly indicates that as well. There seems to be a struggle between fundamentalist Christians and the rest of us. I'm not sure where this church stands. What I can say though is that the entire law of the bible comes to just one law and that is to love your neighbor and the fulfillment of the law is love. There's really no reason to make any of it complicated. I used to wonder if I picked up on things because of being single or a woman, but I think it's just because churches are struggling with specific scriptures in the bible and their training, and I think that was evident in some of my encounters with a few and not with others. I'm not sure yet about this church, but I hope to change this review in the future with more favor. I'm sure it was just a first impression, but it's not always fun to be caught in the crossfire as a human being. I think if people just keep it genuine and listen to their people, huge walls of perception can come down. I'm going to keep love in the pot here, and hope for something really awesome when I get the chance to return.

  • Great place for families and young single people to connect and hear about Jesus on a Sunday morning. I like that the church meets in a familiar, public place!
